The Italian press follows Ferrari's performance in Formula 1 very closely and if the team does not achieve significant success, they criticise the Maranello team mercilessly. The manager is particularly badly affected, but from the outside it seems that Frederic Vasseur does not pay much attention to the attacks on him. The manager of the Scuderia explained how he manages to keep his cool in the face of a big press.
Frederic Vasseur: "Don't take it personally, but I don't read the press and I don't sit on social networks. So I don't feel any pressure from journalists - none at all. I may be from another planet. I am probably the only team leader who does not have social media accounts.
I am much more comfortable that way. I can make day-to-day decisions based only on my own feelings and not on comments from outside.
You probably feel the pressure because you are surrounded by it from all sides. When I come to the office in the morning and go home in the evening, I am always greeted by people at the gate. I feel the passion that surrounds the team and that is more important than anything else.
When I was at Enstone (Vasseur was Renault team principal in 2016), there was only one guy who came to our main entrance all season. And at Ferrari I see people at the base gate every day. I feel their passion at every track, at every meeting with the fans, and it would be foolish to say that I don't notice it. But I don't make decisions to satisfy their wishes".
Commenting on the results of this season, Vasseur said; "We started the season with high hopes, but we realised quite quickly that it was going to be a difficult season. I would like to see us not wasting opportunities in the second part of the season. The team has a lot of problems, but we need to remain optimistic and fully realise the potential of the car in terms of points. Second place in the Constructors' standings at the end of the season is still possible and we have the potential to fight for pole positions and podium places.
Even at Silverstone, our worst round in terms of results, our drivers were on the same pace as Max Verstappen in qualifying right up to Turn 15. We were not able to be productive in the second practice session, we underestimated the tyres in the long series of laps, and as a result we found ourselves in a chasing role. The team took risks in the race, but we were unlucky with the safety car.
